There are some pretty fantastic bike events coming up and for my sake more than anyone – I wanted to be sure to get them in the diary. Let me know if I’m missing a few.
Sunday, 13 April – Glasgow Slow Down
I LOVE this idea. Glasgow Slow Down is a temporary public artwork and performance made by artist Jacqueline Donachie in collaboration with 100 cyclists on 13th April. The performance event from 9am on Sunday 13th April 2014 will result in a city-wide ribbon of colour, made by the cyclists as they travel slowly through Glasgow, coming together in George Square at 10am. The drawing will be made on the road using a small device attached to each bike that leaves behind a single fine line of coloured chalk. To make the chalk lines, cyclists must ride very slowly, thus having a chance to meander through their city at a different pace, going through areas both well known and newly discovered.
You can get more information on where to sign up and where to start on their Facebook page.
Friday 25 April – Cyclehack Social in Edinburgh
Join the Cyclehack Team in Royal Dick Pub in Summerhall – ask questions, learn more about the event, submit your barriers to cycling along with your hacks (ideas and solutions), and enjoy a pint with some lovely company. Get your free ticket here.
I think there is also a Critical Mass ride this evening? Read more about them here.
Saturday, 26 April – Pedal on Parliament
I missed POP last year (but got some great coverage from Hazel) so I’m super excited to make it along, even with my sister Elise will be in tow! Last year, there were over 4,000 cyclists from all over the country asking for measures to make it safer and easier for everyone to ride a bike – whatever bike they ride. It will certainly be a big day. You can read more about POP activity and logistics for the day here.
Sunday, 27 April – Jo runs 10 miles
While I have been training for the Great Edinburgh Run for a while now, I will no doubt be longing for my bike the entire way. Thanks to Elise for flying in to run with me!
Sunday, 4 May – Cyclehack Social in Glasgow
Join the Cyclehack Team (in the Butterfly and the Pig in Glasgow this time) – ask questions, learn more about the event, submit your barriers to cycling along with your hacks (ideas and solutions), and enjoy a pint with some lovely company. Get your free ticket here.
Friday to Sunday, 20-22 June, Cyclehack!
We hope to see you all at Cyclehack in Glasgow in June. It’s going to be an amazing weekend with folks from across sectors and skillsets – I can’t wait to see all the hacks to come! Read more here (and support our Kickstarter!).
